What the bearing consists of
Layers of natural rubber alternate with steel reinforcing plates and are vulcanized to them. There is no core — the bearing behaves almost elastically.
Flexibility without built-in damping
The steel plates prevent the rubber from bulging under vertical load, so the bearing is stiff vertically and flexible horizontally. The vibration period of a building on bearings increases and moves out of the range of dominant periods of seismic excitation.
The inherent damping of natural rubber is low, so LNR bearings usually work as part of a system: together with LRB bearings or viscous dampers, which dissipate energy and limit displacements.
Where LNR bearings are used
In a system with LRB bearings
Some bearings are LNR, some are LRB: the balance of stiffness and damping is selected by analysis.
With viscous dampers
Dampers in the isolation layer limit displacements.
Residential complexes
Multi-storey residential buildings in high-seismicity areas.
Strengthening and reconstruction
Seismic isolation or dampers in existing buildings based on a separate analysis.

Key bearing parameters
Values are determined for the specific building from the structural model and the input data. There is no universal selection table.
| Parameter | Symbol | Unit | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design vertical load | P | kN | per project |
| Design displacement | D | mm | per project |
| Horizontal stiffness | Kh | kN/mm | per project |
| Vertical stiffness | Kv | kN/mm | per project |
| Diameter × height | Ø × H | mm | per catalogue |

Request documentsFrequently asked questions about LNR bearings
Why use LNR bearings if there are LRB bearings?
Both types are often combined in one system: LRB bearings dissipate energy, while LNR bearings carry load and add flexibility. The proportion and layout are determined by analysis to achieve the required period and displacements.
Can seismic isolation use LNR bearings only?
Without additional energy dissipation, displacements in the isolation layer become large. LNR bearings are usually supplemented by LRB bearings or viscous dampers — the decision is made by analysis.
What data is needed for preliminary selection?
General information about the building, architectural and structural drawings, geotechnical data, loads and, if available, an ETABS or LIRA-SAPR model.
How much do LNR bearings cost?
The cost depends on the number and parameters of the devices and is determined after preliminary selection. We do not publish fixed prices.
