Discuss a project →Pipes, air ducts and cables across the isolation gap
During an earthquake, a building on bearings moves relative to the ground. Rigid pipes and ducts crossing the isolation gap cannot withstand this displacement, so they are connected through flexible connections designed for the same displacements as the bearings.
We select Safetyinside flexible connections for water supply, heating, ventilation and cable routes based on the displacements from the analysis.
Request selectionSeismic isolation or energy dissipation
The approaches are not mutually exclusive: isolation systems often combine bearings and dampers. The final choice is made by analysis.
| Seismic isolation | Energy dissipation | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Decouples the building from ground motion and lengthens its period | Absorbs vibration energy in the frame or in the isolation layer |
| Devices | LRB, LNR, HDRB, FPS, sliding bearings | Viscous dampers, BRB braces |
| Typical use | Schools, hospitals, housing, buildings with valuable equipment | Frames, high-rise buildings, strengthening of existing buildings |
| What to consider | Gap around the building, flexible utilities, access to bearings | Installation locations in the frame, connection details |
