What the bearing consists of
The design is that of a laminated rubber bearing, but the rubber is a high-damping compound. It is the compound that dissipates the energy.
Damping built into the material
Like other laminated bearings, an HDRB is stiff vertically and flexible horizontally — the building's vibration period increases.
In shear, the high-damping compound works with hysteresis and converts part of the vibration energy into heat. Stiffness and damping depend on the strain amplitude, so the analysis uses properties obtained by the manufacturer in tests.
Where HDRB bearings are used
Schools and kindergartens
Social facilities with stricter requirements for people's safety.
Hospitals
Buildings that must remain operational after an earthquake.
Residential complexes
Multi-storey residential buildings in high-seismicity areas.
Strengthening and reconstruction
Seismic isolation or dampers in existing buildings based on a separate analysis.

Key bearing parameters
Values are determined for the specific building from the structural model and the input data. There is no universal selection table.
| Parameter | Symbol | Unit | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Design vertical load | P | kN | per project |
| Design displacement | D | mm | per project |
| Effective horizontal stiffness | Keff | kN/mm | per project |
| Equivalent damping | ξeff | % | per project |
| Diameter × height | Ø × H | mm | per catalogue |

Request documentsFrequently asked questions about HDRB bearings
How does HDRB differ from LRB?
In an HDRB, energy is dissipated by the rubber compound itself; in an LRB, by the lead core. The choice depends on the required properties, displacements and the analysis results.
How are changes in rubber properties taken into account?
The analysis is performed with upper and lower bounds of the properties — accounting for temperature, ageing and loading history — based on the manufacturer's test data.
What data is needed for preliminary selection?
General information about the building, architectural and structural drawings, geotechnical data, loads and, if available, an ETABS or LIRA-SAPR model.
How much do HDRB bearings cost?
The cost depends on the number and parameters of the devices and is determined after preliminary selection. We do not publish fixed prices.
