ETABS analysis: development and verification of building structural models
We carry out ETABS analysis for design firms in Kazakhstan: we build a structural model of the building from scratch based on an agreed set of input documents, or review an existing model and record our comments.
Who the service is for
Design firms
You need an ETABS model based on finished drawings or an independent review of your own model.
Projects with seismic isolation
We include preliminary bearing parameters in the model and prepare data for the manufacturer.
Developers and clients
You need to compare LIRA-SAPR and ETABS models or evaluate a solution before choosing a system.
Scope of work
Not included without separate agreement
What is needed to start
| Data group | Examples | Status |
|---|---|---|
| General information | Project name and location, purpose, number of storeys, design stage, contact person | Required |
| Design materials | Architectural, concrete and steel drawings — DWG, IFC or PDF; an existing ETABS or LIRA-SAPR model | Required |
| Geology and seismicity | Geotechnical survey, soil type, design accelerations, spectra, accelerograms | Required |
| Loads | Permanent, variable, process and special loads; adopted combinations | Required |
| Scope | Model development, review, geometry transfer, reinforcement analysis, seismic isolation selection | Clarified together |
How the work is carried out
- STAGE 01
Input data review
We check the completeness of the documentation and record questions.
- STAGE 02
Scope, timing, cost
We agree the technical brief and the contract.
- STAGE 03
Model development
Geometry, loads, masses, combinations, analysis.
- STAGE 04
Internal review
Check of mass, periods, reactions and mode shapes.
- STAGE 05
Delivery
Model, explanatory note and answers to the designer's questions.
Deliverables
Timing and cost
Determined after reviewing the input data. Factors:
We will give the timing of the preliminary assessment after receiving the documentation — it depends on the volume and completeness of the input data.
Limitations and responsibilities of the parties
The scope, methodology and deliverables are defined by the contract and the technical brief for the specific project. Preliminary results and equipment parameters do not replace approved design documentation and may not be used for procurement or construction without approval by the responsible project participants.
Frequently asked questions about ETABS analysis
Can I order only a review of an existing ETABS model?
Yes. We check geometry, stiffnesses, loads, masses and results and issue a note with our comments. Reviews of LIRA-SAPR models are done separately — see the LIRA-SAPR analysis page.
Do you model seismic isolation in ETABS?
Yes. We include preliminary bearing parameters in the model and prepare data for the manufacturer so that devices can be selected for the loads and displacements of the specific building.
What data is needed to start?
Architectural and structural drawings, loads and combinations, the geotechnical survey and site seismic parameters, and the existing structural model if there is one.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
Timing and cost are determined after reviewing the input data: they depend on the number of storeys, the structural system, the completeness of the documentation and the scope of analysis.
Order a structural model
Attach the documentation — we will check the completeness of the data and come back with questions and the procedure for determining timing and cost.
Frequently asked questions about ETABS analysis
Can a model be transferred from LIRA-SAPR to ETABS?
There is no complete automatic conversion. We compare the models by geometry, total mass, stiffness, periods and mode shapes and refine the model manually where necessary.
Which codes are used for the analysis?
The codes specified in the technical brief for the project. Applicable codes are agreed before work begins.
How long does model development take?
It depends on the project and the completeness of the input data. The deadline is fixed in the contract after reviewing the documentation.
What if the input data is incomplete?
Before modelling starts, we send a list of comments and missing data.
